Pro-life weekend
Today starts the pro-life weekend. It starts with an all day fast. If you coudn't possibly go without food for a whole Friday at least give up something little, like candy, or potatoes. I'm sure the babies would appreciate whatever you give them. But remember, we arne't just giving it up for the babies, but also the elderly. We must also battle euthanasia!

Why?

Nothing is worse than knowing that there are innocents being killed in the world, and that you can do nothing about it. Often times, I feel so helpless about abortion. Why can't I help them in some lasting way. Of course all I can do is try to make people more aware about what this is doing to our country and our world. But abortion isn't the only ravaging disease that our country is experiencing right now. Euthanasia is also a big problem. I just recently made a t-shirt picture for the Benedictine College Ravens Respect Life. It was a contest. They were going to wear the t-shirt to the 2011 march for life. (my entry is shown to the left) The problem was that most of the t-shirt designs, while really great, showing the abortion issue, completely ignored the issue of euthanasia. This was my problem. I realized that people usually ignore this side of the spectrum, but really it's almost just as important, and just as prevalent. Therefore, we must not just look out for the unborn who can't speak for themselves, but also the elderly and infirm who also can't speak for themselves, or who have unfit judgement.

the root of abortion

I pray every day for the end to this slaughter of unborn children. Slaughter may seem like a harsh word for it, but it is only what the action deserves. Many try to justify the act by saying that the government should not interfere in the parents decision, they cannot tell us how to run our lives. If you are one of those people, let me ask you something; do you enjoy the safety of knowing that convicted murderers are locked in jail? Do you agree that if a man or woman kills a twelve year old child, that he should be brought to justice? If you agree with this then why should we not bring to justice the ones who are killing our smaller children, the ones who haven't even opened their eyes yet? They are human too. They are the ones that will carry on the next generation. For this reason I have resolved to get to the bottom of the abortion problem.
Why is this terrible action happening all over the world? Why does not everyone automatically condemn it? a hundred years ago it would have been unheard of. I think that abortion has not just one root but many. I just recently received an orchid from a friend. I had heard that they were hard to take care of. I decided that I wanted to try however. The first month went great. It was blooming and beautiful. Soon the blooms started to droop though. They started dropping off, and the leaves began to turn yellow. I searched wildly all over the internet, trying to find out what had happened to my poor flower. Finally it died completely. I took it out of its pot to find that the roots under the bulb were black and mushy. My orchid had died because the roots were rotten. If I had been more attentive, earlier, and seen what it needed I would have been able to save it right away, but because I neglected it in the early stages, watered it to much, and was rough on it, I let it die. That I think is the main problem with abortion. We neglect our children. Now many of you who are parents out there, will say: "but we pay a lot of attention to our children and give them what they need." some others will say "if you pay to much attention to them they will be spoiled rotten." I am not saying give them what they want. I am saying give them what they need.
People have children, send them off to daycare the minute they are able to and then stick them in schools as soon as they are old enough, they then expect them to go to college and move out after that. This may satisfy the children physically, but how does this satisfy the mental and spiritual needs of the child? They are taught that taking care of children is a low priority. So when the child gets pregnant, or gets someone else pregnant they think of this as an inconvenience, a low priority matter, that should be stopped and put off until adulthood. This is the biggest problem connected to abortion today. Life itself is not respected but put on the shelf to deal with later.
I think that that is enough even for me to reflect on for awhile. Thanks for reading.
